Academic Decathlon Team Preps for State with Big Wins

The Knights’ Academic Decathlon team has picked up two big wins this season.  They came away with the River Cities Conference Championship winning 32 of the 45 medals. The most recent victory was the small school regional championship held at Midland University in Fremont.  The Knights won 65 medals from a potential 72. They also won the super quiz by a comfortable margin. 

This year’s topic is World War I. The categories of knowledge are language and literature, art, music, social science, economics, math and science.  At the state level the participants will also compete in essay, interview and speech.

Academic decathlon competitions are divided into 3 levels based on a student’s cumulative GPA. They are Honors, Scholastic, and Varsity. At the state meet 3 individual will represent the team in each division with one alternate at each level competing for individual medals separate from the team competition. 

Making up the Mount Michael’s Academic Decathlon team are Jon Collins, Ben Connealy, Collin Donahue,  Cameron Engel, Zach Frevert, Rowan Gruber, Alex Hotovy, Andy Johannes, Thomas Kalil, Caleb Pflug, Jacob Ramaekers, and Adam Terasinski.
