Monday Knight Madness


The Knights celebrated the start of the winter sports season with Monday Knight Madness featuring Wrestling and Basketball match-ups which included all the Knights basketball teams, Varisty, JV, Sophomore, Freshmen, and 8th, 7th, and 6th grade Jr. Knights.

Worsham Signs to Play Baseball

Blake Worsham '18 Signs to Play for the Broncos
Senior Blake Worsham signs a letter of intent to play baseball for the Hastings College Broncos. Blake is the son of Bob and Amy Freshman of  Omaha.  Blake attended Elkhorn Ridge Middle School before coming to Mount Michael.

Tennis Team Dominates RCC Conference


Mount Michael's Tennis team captured the River Cities Conference championship in overwhelming fashion with 3 first place finishes and 1 second place finish.

Issac Gart #1 Singles 6-0, 
Lorcan Jamal and Joe Hitzemann #1 doubles 6-0, 
Peyton Rosenfels #2 singles finished 2nd.

To be  nominated a student must be a varsity player or organizational leader who has  played a significant role on the team or in the organizational activity during the  seasons for which nominations are accepted.

A nominated student must have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average, in all  curricular subjects, of 93% or 3.7 on a 4.0-point scale or the equivalent.

Breinig Selected for Shrine Bowl

Cameron Breinig
Congratulation to Mount Michael's #68 Cameron Breinig for being selected to play for the North Team in the Nebraska Shrine Bowl on June 3 at the University of Nebraska Kearney. Cameron was a 6'3" 285 Lineman for the Knights.  Cameron will play for the University of Nebraska Kearney next fall where he received an athletic scholarship.

Cameron attended Saint Patrick's grade school in Elkhorn and  is the son of Patrick and Denise Breinig of Omaha.

Cross Country: Another Banner Year!

The Knights put forth their finest performances of the year to claim the Class B Runner-up trophy at the State Cross Country Meet at Kearney.

The Knights competed against 3rd place Norris at several meets this year beating them only once during the regular season.  That was at the Kearney Invitational.

At state the team was led by seniors Nick Carson who was the 3rd place medalist and Peyton Hottovy who was the 5th place medalist.

*By being runner-up at the District Meet, the cross country team qualifies for the State Meet held next Friday in Kearney.

Peyton Hottovy, Nick Carson, and Joey Recker were District Medalists by placing in the top fifteen. Hottovy's win was his first ever in a cross country race.

*Norris was the District Champion because of tie breaker. Their 5th runner was ahead of our 5th runner.

Knights Race To River Cities Conference Runner-up

The Mount Michael cross country team had a great day racing on their home course for the runner-up title. The Knights placed 3 runners as River Cities Conference medalists,  Nick Carson 4th, Peyton Hottovy 5th, and Joey Recker 9th. South Sioux City, who won the meet,  are considered the favorite to win the state meet in a couple of weeks.

The JV Knight also had a great day placed 2nd among junior varsity teams.  

Thursday will be the District Meet held in Lincoln @ Pioneers Park.  Go Knights!

Athletic Year Wraps Up By Adding Another Banner to the Palace

The Mount Michael Golf team punctuated the closing of the 2015-2016 school year by winning the State Class B Golf Runner-up Trophy to add another banner to the palace.  The two-day competition was held at Pioneer Golf Course in Lincoln.  Three Knights were also individual medalists.  Sophomore Johnathan Hudson placed sixth while seniors JT Hudson and Luke Krajewski tied for eighth place.

Individual District Champion; Team Runner-up

The Mount Michael golf team posted great results at the recent district championship held at Tiburon Golf Course.  J. T. Hudson finished as the district champion with a score of 73 and Luke Krajewski was a 7th place medalist with an 80.

 As a team they Knights were runner-up behind Elkhorn but ahead of Skutt who defeated them on the conference level last week by one stroke.

Knights Qualify for State Track Meet

The Mount Michael track team has qualified athletes in 8 events for the state meet.

Individual Events:
Jeremiah Connealy High Jump, Tyler Degener 110 High Hurdles, Matt Mumby 200m & 400m, Zach Hytrek 1600m, Nick Carson 3200m.

Zach Hytrek is the District Champion in the 1600m run.

Relays:  
4x400: Jeremiah Connealy, Nick Carson, Zach Hytrek, Matt Mumby.
4x800: Zach Hytrek, Nick Carson, Jack Blaser, Matt Mumby.

District Soccer Champions 2016

The Mount Michael Knights defeated the Blair Bears to win the 2016 B-3 District Championship for the third Consecutive year.



The Knights (14-4) will now host Gross Catholic (10-6) in a Substate matchup to qualify for the state tournament.  The game will be play on Nate LaFave Memorial Field at 12:00pm Saturday May 7th.

On April 21st the Knights defeated the Cougars 2-1 in a hard fought battle between evenly matched teams.

Knights Win Track Invitational; 11 First Place Finishes!

The Mount Michael Track team is has been reaping numerous pieces of hardware in competition this spring.

Last week they were Runner-up at the Platteview Invitational (Results) and this week they were Champions at the DC West Invitational where they garnered 11 first place finishes! (Results)

The Knights are sending 5 wrestlers to state which is the largest number in our programs brief history.

Highllights: Knights' Grapplers in the Palace

The Mount's Palace recently hosted wrestling matches against opponents from Lincoln Pius X and Elkhorn. As a team the Knights lost to Lincoln Pius X and defeated the Elkhorn Antlers

Knights Capture State XC Championship

The Mount Michael Knights came away with the another state championship by the narrowest margin possible, one point over surprise Plattsmouth.  This is the 9th Cross Country Championship for the Mount the 6th under coach Gathje.

The Knights were led by Zach Hytrek with a 7th place medal while Nick Carson earned a 10th place medal.  Sam VanHaute & Peyton Hottovy just missed out as individual medalist with 17th and 18th place finishes.  The teams long term goal was accomplished.  State for Nate.  Nate LeFauve would have been a senior on the cross country team. As all familiar with Mount Michael know his life was cut short in a tragic car accident in October 2013. Nate's mother was present and assisted Coach Gathje in presenting the team with their championship medals.
