Pat McGuire '77 RIP                      Lincoln Journal-Star   Sept. 2006

      Pat McGuire served as a police officer for the city of Lincoln Nebraska fro 25 years. Most recently he served on the Northeast Police Team as a uniformed patrol officer.

      McGuire's career included several years as an investigator in he Family Crimes Unit, as a school resource officer and with DARE, Drug Abuse Resistance Education.

      He earned a number of awards, including two life-saving awards, one for his efforts rescuing a victim at the scene of a double murder and suicide on March 30, 1985. He also was recognized for his work Feb.. 11, 2004, in apprehending a serial kidnapper and bank robber.

      For years, McGuire also volunteered as a coach of police midget football teams.

      "He touched the lives of thousands of youngsters as a DARE instructor and coach," Officer Katherine Finnel said. "He will be missed by his co-workers and friends."

      A memorial Mass was held at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln and the internment was at Lincoln Memorial Park.
